Cost Breakdown

How We Calculate Plastering Requirements

Step 1: Area Calculation

We calculate the wall area by multiplying Length × Height, then convert to square meters for volume calculations.

Wall Area = 10 × 10 = 100 sq ft = 9.29 sq m

Step 2: Plaster Volume

Plaster volume = Wall area × Thickness × Number of coats. Using 12mm thickness for 1 coat.

Volume = 9.29 × 0.012 × 1 = 0.111

Step 3: Dry Volume Adjustment

We add 33% to the wet volume to get the dry volume of materials needed. This accounts for voids and compaction.

Dry Volume = 0.111 × 1.33 = 0.148

Step 4: Material Distribution

Based on the cement:sand ratio (1:5), we distribute the dry volume proportionally:

  • Cement: 1 bags (35.59 kg) @ ₹400/bag
  • Sand: 4.36 cubic feet (197.7 kg) @ ₹50/cft
  • Water: 7.12 liters (20% of cement weight)
  • Labor: 100 sq ft @ ₹60/sq ft

Key Assumptions

  • • Cement density: 1440 kg/m³
  • • Sand density: 1600 kg/m³
  • • Water-cement ratio: 0.2 (20% by weight)
  • • Dry volume factor: 1.33 (33% increase)
  • • Labor cost: ₹60 per sq ft
  • • Material costs: Cement ₹400/bag, Sand ₹50/cft

Pro Tips

Thickness Selection:

  • • 12mm - Internal walls, smooth surfaces
  • • 15mm - External walls, moderate exposure
  • • 20mm - External rough walls, heavy exposure
  • • Check local building codes

Best Practices:

  • • Wet the wall before plastering
  • • Use clean, fine sand
  • • Apply in thin, even coats
  • • Cure properly for 7-14 days
